THE REAL REASON WE NEED A SAVIOR
Dr. Ralph “Yankee”
Arnold
We are warned to flee from
the wrath to come. Mat 3:7 But when he saw many of the
Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of
vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Dwight
L Moody said, “The God who tells of the
glories of heaven, also tells of the horrors of hell”.Billy Sunday said, “A man will be in hell less than five minutes before he knows there is one”.
Read the story of Luke 16: 19-
31
Whenever
I have taught Bible college students about the story of the rich man and
Lazarus, I would always have them study this portion of Scripture and make a
list of all the things you garner about a person in hell. Here are a few reasons to examine your need of a Savior, every family faces death:
This was a rich family:
This was a large family:
This family was visited by death:
This family had one member in hell:
This family had no hope by choice:
Who would have thought that
in a brief moment in time:
That a millionaire could be changed into a pauper?
That he could not buy so much as one drop of water?
That riches availed nothing at death?
That he would remember forever deeds he did on the
earth?
That once he was in hell, he could never escape?
That their destination was the result of their own
decision?
Luke 16:29
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear
them.
Luke 16:31 And
he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be
persuaded, though one rose from the
dead.
Seven reasons why you should
not go to hell:
1.
God does not want you to go to hell
2.
Jesus does not want you to go to hell
3.
The Holy Spirit does not want you to hell
4.
People in heaven do not want you to go to hell
5.
People in hell do not want you to go to hell
a.
Luke 16:27 Then he said, I
pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
b. Luke 16:28 For I have five brethren; that he may
testify unto them, lest they also come
into this place of torment.
6.
People that know and love you do not want you to go to hell.
7. Hell is an awful place that was not prepared for you
7. Hell is an awful place that was not prepared for you
Mat 25:41 Then
shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into
everlasting fire, prepared for the devil
and his angels:
Things that the rich man
discovered about hell:
1. Death did
not end it all
a. Luke
16:22 … the rich man also died, and
was buried;
b. Luke
16:23 And in hell he lift up his
eyes…,
2. Hell was
real
3. That a man
reaps what he sows even in hell (Luke 16:25)
4. That there
is punishment and torment in hell
5. That there
is a great gulf between heaven and hell (Once dead – destiny is fixed)
6. That
praying to saints availed nothing (Abraham was a good saint, but he could not
help)
7. There are
no opportunities for salvation after death (No need to preach the gospel in
Hell)
Things that are not found in
hell:
1. There is no
peace in hell
Isa
57:21 There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
2. There is no
rest in hell
Rev
14:11 And the smoke of their
torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, (Forever
tired)
3. There is no
joy in hell (There is nothing there to rejoice about)
4. There is no
comfort in hell (Luke 16:25)
5. There is no
water in hell
6. There is no
mercy in hell
Luk
16:24 And he cried and said, Father
Abraham, have mercy on me, and send
Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue;
for I am tormented in this flame.
7. There is no
hope in hell
a.
Luk 16:26 And
beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you
cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
b.
Dan 12:2 And
many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to
everlasting life, and some to shame and
everlasting contempt.
c.
Dan 12:3 And
they that be wise shall shine as the
brightness of the firmament; and they that turn
many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
If we could get out of hell
after a million years or so, perhaps we could afford to take a chance with our
never dying soul.
2Co 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of
salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now
is the day of salvation.)
