Yankee’s 2021 Summer Tour Update #1
Scott Bennett and his wife Janet were members of Calvary Community Church for about 10 years when they decided to move to Bryon, Georgia. He talked to this pastor (not his) about me coming to preach on last Sunday night. After the service, I asked the pastor is this was a Baptist church, to which he quickly responded, no. We are of the Wesleyan–Arminian theology.
My sermon that night was about the Eternal Security of the Believer. Then I recalled how that the audience was loudly shouting amen throughout my message. Two indicated they trusted Christ. The people loved what I said, but the pastor gave little response.
Arminians believe that future salvation and eternal life is secured in Christ and protected from all external forces but is conditional on remaining in Christ and can be lost through apostasy.
With regard to good works, A Catechism on the Christian Religion: The Doctrines of Christianity with Special Emphasis on Wesleyan Concepts teaches:[9] ...after a man is saved and has genuine faith, his works are important if he is to keep justified.
John Wesley taught that the keeping of the moral law contained in the Ten Commandments,[12] as well as engaging in the works of piety and the works of mercy, were "indispensable for our sanctification"
Like his Arminian predecessors, Wesley was convinced from the testimony of the Scriptures that a true believer may abandon faith and the way of righteousness and "fall from God as to perish everlastingly."[34]
When you teach that a person can lose their salvation by their disobedience, you are also teaching that your obedience keeps your salvation. This is not a trust in what Christ did for us, but a trust in what we do for God. THIS IS NOT SALVATION!
